Well done

Filed under: Just for fun, Retail therapy, yumyum stuff — by lolapop @ 1:03 am

I have successfully slacked the whole weekend away and splurged ard $200. Had plenty of good food on sat, good fun and good stuff on sun. Finally caught Changeling online on fri, still wanna watch seven pounds !

And ALL THESE, while my assignment lies undone. =P

But then again, 休息是为了走更长远的路,不是吗?=)

I think they already looked good before going into the oven. hehe.

p1150514

Shaping the pineapple paste. I think they look like dried apricots !

p1150511

Meihui in action

p1150515

And into the oven they go !

Storing the tarts away

p1150512

We made round ones that looked like tau sa piah…

p1150567

and these pretty tarts which everybody loves.

p1150513

Feeling CNY in the air yet =) ?

Anyway that was on last thursday and we spent a good 6-7 hrs making them. Difficult? No. Tedious? Definitely. But I really looooooove those yummy pineapple tarts.

As for yesterday, we made sushi. Meihui will be off to exchange very soon so this will probably be the last time we’re seeing her. Ahh guess the next time we can all meet again will be in june. Hope her exchange will be good !

p1210581

Our array of colourful ingredients

p1210587

The crabmeat mayo which i painstakingly shredded, cut and mixed with mayo. I think it took me close to an hour =P

p1210588

Meihui made this egg mayo ! Yumyum.

The Art of Sushi Making

Step 1: Spread an appropriate amount of rice evenly on the seaweed.

p1210605

Step 2: Place any combination of ingredients you like in the middle of the rice. (Picture taken at a different angle cos before i rmb to take pics i rolled it up haha)

p1210598

Step 3: Roll it up firmly.

p1210600

Step 4: Cut the roll into even pieces and enjoy !

Simple huh. Making the sushi is quite an easy task. It’s really the preparation work that takes up more time.

p1210606

More pictures of the sushi

p1210618

Made these too and realised they are relatively simple to do. It’s the small sushi roll that got me stumped =( Then i had to finish the whole roll myself cos the roll wldn’t stick.

p1210653

Last but not least, check out peiwen’s awesome combi ! haha…we all had fun with the baking and sushi making session. And i think we should definitely make it a yearly affair ;)

Ok i guess that’s enough food for the day, anymore and you guys might develop strong cravings for certain kind of food like…pineapple tarts. LOLS.

Bliss is such

What better way to spend a lazy sunday then to share a nice warm home-made chocolate fondue…

Note: If you are having a chocolate craving right now, it’s advisable NOT to scroll down, don’t say i didn’t warn you.

dscf3486

Our delightful little afternoon treat

dscf3487

Don’t you just adore the lovely heart-shaped fondue set ?

dscf3488

Freshly-cut strawberries and apples…

dscf3489

Oreos and Digestives !

Well, there’s nothing much i can comment on. Just glad i have a really great friend next door to spend an otherwise boring sunday with =D !

Weekends are such slow-paced days, where one tend to drift off into slumber and do things just becos you want to. Such a big difference from the hectic weekdays where everybody hurries ard to get ‘impt’ stuff done and nobody really stop to appreciate the smallest things.

Reminds me of a quote i’ve read sometime ago.

‘Don’t hurry. Don’t worry. You’re only here for a short visit. So don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers along the way.‘ - Walter Hagen

I spent a good quarter of yesterday

Filed under: Just for fun, yumyum stuff — by lolapop @ 8:15 pm

…making these.

floss-rolls-002

Floss rolls ! They are my favourite CNY snacks, apart from ba kwa ;) Nothing like making them yourselves. It’s hard to find pork floss one off the shelves these days cos majority only have those shrimp one. And those are NOTHING compared to the floss one hmmph.

It’s really easy to make them yourself, and they’re relatively fresher and cheaper(i guess) this way. But yeah it does take some time.

Completed those in about 6 hours. and i wonder how many episodes of moonlight resonance i watch in the process. It’s one great HK drama. Can’t wait to see the floss rolls turn golden brown and crispy !

Just been to the new Jurong Point on mon with lin and wen. like finally, so i am mountain turtle no more heh. I thought it wld remind me of vivo, but…not exactly. There’s even a ‘Chinatown’ part which remind me of those shopping malls in KL and China. Ehh abit dodgy if you ask me. But the yogurt place is there ! So i had their granola one yumyum.

It was well…a BIGGER shopping mall. Nothing really exciting, maybe cos i wasn’t looking for anything in particular. Oh but there’s this icing store which let people decorate the icing on their own cakes ! That’s kind of innovative but unless your art is decent, your cake might turn out looking err…really special.

I wld choose to bake my own cake anytime over this, but this is indeed a convenient way to ‘customise’ a cake for your love ones.

Ahhh this reminds me of the second tiramisu i made. And this time round it’s for my mum’s birthday ! I cut down on the sugar and added coffee to the kahlua this time. BUT i made the terrible mistake of dipping the ladyfingers for too long. So they still turned out kindda soggy =( I would be less greedy next time.

The cozycot blogshop weekend saw us getting some cheap bargains and as of now i have more new clothes than i will ever need for the cny. The excuse is officially OVERutilised.

Sch’s starting real soon. I better post up my txtbk for sales aldry. Bidding has been a major headache so far. I just hope everything gets settled soon. Sigh, year 3.

This post is a tad late but better late than never ! Mainly cos i wasn’t in the mood to blog. Oh yes, trust me you need to have The Mood to blog otherwise the blog entries comes out crappy. much like ranting.

Backtrack a lil to christmas eve, where we spent it in dardardar’s gym ! Hilarious night with vodka ribena raspberry 7-up, logcake, cupcakes, chocolate and cookies. and lots of lots of laughter of course. We had present exchange too, that is — among those who knew there is supposed to be one. Abit lazy to upload the many photos, so shall just post a few nice/funny ones. The rest are up on fb and i have tagged everybody.

The lovely logcake

The presents we prepared =D

pc240359

Cutesy cupcakes with cream cheese frosting

The girls ! (and 1 guy aka ej the photographer haha)

pc240369

The expensive but yummy cranberry orange cookie from Mark & Spencers’

pc240374

pc240379

We also had a game of charades which left everyone tickled. I particularly rmb one where dardardar was jumping ard and ej yelled ‘THAIPUSAM!!’ That was super hilarious, considering our theme for the game was CHRISTMAS. Then we proceed on to zhong ji mi ma to force ppl to finish the food. Heh. That’s what you do after parties to ‘clear up’ the food right.

pc240387

But i think at the end of the day we still had fun. So that’s cheers to christmas !

pc240391

One last ‘mirror’ pic before we call it a night ! If you look closely you’ll notice the treadmill and some exercise equipment in the background. What a Christmas haha. Luckily the security guard was nice enough to allow us to celeb in the gym, otherwise we wld be out in the drizzling rain. But this also mean that nobody got thrown/dragged/pushed into the pool this year. Hmmph. Nvm, there’s always next year ;)

And guess who we ran into while waiting for the bus to the mrt station ? When J shouted ‘Merry christmas !’ we all got a shock…well it was, kind of awkward to say the least. Apparently he was there with his church friends and the whole group of us were preparing to go home after the celeb. But, wadever lar =P

Following that, siewmay was so seh she ended up cabbing home with huimin. Aahhh, need some training from me HAHA. But i guess the rest of us were fine. What’s christmas without alcohol right ?! And poor ej puked on the way back on the train. Err i guess zhong ji mi ma is not a great idea afterall, esp not when one is sick. Sorry ej ! Luckily he’s better after that.

And that was the happening christmas. I think there won’t be anymore alcohol next year. haha.

—————————————————————————————————————————————-

The day after christmas was supposed to be our shopping trip out, but we ended up pub-hopping for the later half. Lei did her fair of shopping while I being the stingy poor one didn’t buy anything at all ! Which is good, i guess.

Dinner was a near 3 hours affair. Lei brought me to try out this really famous japanese store, Wasabi Tei in far east. And guess how long we queued ? We waited and waited AND waited for 1 and a half hr !! Super hungry when we finally got on the precious seats.

Thumbs up for the chawamushi, as for the main i would say it’s not bad but err i don’t think i wld queue up that long for it again. I am v v picky when it comes to food, i guess most of my friends know that by now. But it was worth trying out ! Their appetiser is special and their watermelon served cold and sweet. They have fragrant green tea too. Just don’t go there on an empty stomach. You will FAINT in the queue before you reach the door.

Our original plan was to head to Timbre at the Art house, cos i haven’t been there before and wanted to check out the place. But the weather wasn’t looking good so we settled at The Santuary by Indochine along orchard road. The band was not bad, but wasn’t the kind of music and place we’re looking for.

The BEST thing then, was that i got my first taste of Erdinger. and fell in love with it. It is seriously the nicest beer i have drank to date. I don’t really know how to describe the taste of beer but this one stands out from the rest. It’s kind of light yet not diluted, not overly fizzy, doesn’t leave a bitter aftertaste in your mouth and glides down your throat smoothly!  Amazing. This is also the very first time i think i am starting to acquire the taste for beer haha.

And so we left shortly after the drink. and moved on to Timbre ! Now i really love the ambience of this place. Before you reach the place, you can already hear the band’s music drifting along the singapore river. Music by the river makes for such a perfect night. The dim orangy lighting gives off a warm cozy feeling and the lights hanging from the ceiling had a festive feel to them.

It’s an awesome place to chill out over drinks with friends, really. Big group, small group, it doesn’t make a difference. Nothing can go wrong with such good music, ambience and drinks. Didn’t get to try out their pizza though cos i was still full from dinner. But lei raved abt them so maybe next time ! she had Sangria which yours truly recommended and it was good that she liked it =D Seemed better than the one i had at Wala too.

Just when i was thinking this should be our last stop for the night, she suggested heading over to ChinaOne. Haha looks like somebody haven’t had enough yet, so we made a move again. No objections from me cos i was afterall, quite a nocturnal creature myself.

Things are always happening at ChinaOne for some reason. The last time we went there is this big guy who dances like he’s high on drugs and we can’t stop laughing at him. Lei even took to imitating his dance moves then, hilarious !

This time round, there was a near fight that almost broke out. Really drama. Machiam like shows on tv, people having to hold the angry guy who was waving his fist and looking like he’s gonna plummet the other guy to death. And the other guy acting like he don’t know what wrong. Then in came the BIG bouncer who got them to step out of the dancefloor to settle the issue. Now i finally understand why bouncers have to be that big and menacing.

And then people broke glass and it fell all over the place, i was near but luckily got no cuts from the shattered glass. And guys hitting on us as usual. But the one lei met is the ULTIMATE. This caucasian guy actually lifted her up and swing her ard for a bit ! I was like omg dunnoe whether to laugh or exclaim. Becos it really looked a little funny and silly haha. Though i’m sure lei is super shocked.

And surprise surprise ! I actually met wen, nayling and their friends at ChinaOne. What a coincidence huh, or should i say sg is really small haha. But they left earlier so didn’t get to witness any of the drama mentioned above.

Aahhh the funny things that happen at ChinaOne. I wonder what would happen next time. Anyway before getting on the cab, we saw this drunk guy lying on the ground beside the road, and he was yelling from time to time. It’s scary but we felt kindda sorry for him. Quite a poor thing, wonder where his friends are. We got on the cab since there was nothing much we can do/dare to help. And that concludes our night. More nights out !!

—————————————————————————————————————————————

27th was spent at mh’s christmas chalet. And instead of playing ‘orientation-style’ games like she wanted us to, we hide in the room to play board games among ourselves haha.

Well, it would be the last time the 4 of us gather until the later half of 2009. With sh and mh going on exchange for both earlier half of the year, our clique will only be left with pw and me. And since pw wld be busy with work and bf, i guess, that’s me left haha. Hope the girls would enjoy their exchange tremendously, just like i did during HK summer sch.

Seems like many ppl wld be going away next sem, for exchange, for attachment, for internship(in sg)…just not having the usual mugging sem. Honestly, i am really envious of them. Esp since i have been through summer sch. Those unforgettable days.

Sigh, i’ll miss friends who are going away.

On top of that, i just recalled that next sem wld be the graduating sem for many friends too =( Soon, i won’t be able to see much familiar faces in sch anymore. But it’s inevitable lar i know, people will go their own way eventually and pursue what they want. And it is different for everybody.

When people say ’stay in contact’, do they really mean it or is it just a phase everybody says out of habit ? Say it like you mean it. Say it only if you mean it.

————————————————————————————————————————————-

This is such a long post but i’m still going on. On a side note, i enjoyed the scrumptious homely dinner on 30th, it was good =D I love you all.

My reflection on 2008 is going to be short, and my resolution for 2009 will be simple.

It has been a rough year for me. For the first time in my life, i experienced the heart-wrenching pain of betrayal and loss. It wasn’t easy, waiting for half a year and being terribly upset for the later half. But i think it made me a stronger person. it made me realise things. it made me learn.

My grades haven’t been good this year, and as a matter of fact, they keep dipping. This will not do esp when i am going to embark on the honours track. Is it a lack of focus, a lack of hardwork ? Whatever it is, this must not go on.

The best thing about this year, is that i realise that are many people who still loves me. who still cares a lot about how i feel. who loves me for me. that’s the most impt thing. and that’s enough, really =)

The CUHK summer sch is also a great experience, a blessing in disguise. I’m really, really glad that i went for it. Those are truly unforgettable memories, perhaps the highlight of my uni days when i look back someday.

Come 2009, i only have a simple resolution. That is to be a happier person and make more people happy. Love more. Hate less.

I am an ajisen ramen convert

Filed under: yumyum stuff — by lolapop @ 1:45 am

all becos of this !

ajisen-crayfish-ramen1

I NEVER liked ajisen before.

But this is so yum-yum i would go back for more. I think the part that won me over was the sauce they cooked the crayfish in. It resembles that of chilli crab. really good. and not too salty this time round ! Volcano sauce gave the extra kick. Thumbs up.

And no i didn’t take the picture, i stole it =P

We had really nice food for the whole day. The lovely oyster mee sua from shilin at far east for late lunch and i really do think their outlet has the nicest mee sua ever !! Yogurt from the yogurt place too…the granola one is soooooo good. Oh yes, i feel like a pig aldry. But, they’re all so delicious ! hahaha. What a rare food post.

Christmas gifts are so duhx. I think people only get them becos they are obliged to. and I HATE squeezing through the crowd. I didn’t get anything at all today. Maybe partly cos i’m poor enough haha.

Just a thought though. Is it so hard to be happy ?

Meet the lil cutie…

bored-008

from china ! and my bro is back haha. woke up super early on sat to fetch him from the airport with mum and dad. my cam’s back too, so i can start snapping away. Went out later on with lei, ended up getting a hair trim and eyebrow plucked. It’s a no-shopping-self-grooming day for me…shld be getting a dye job later this week. The price of vanity, tsk.

bored-006

We tried out this new taiwanese dessert place after dinner. It looks like our usual ice-kachang, but actually taste pretty different. They call their ice ’slice’, which i didn’t quite get but nvm. Thing is, the ice were so so soft it was like (using their exact words) ‘winter in your mouth’.

Haha sounds bit awkward but yeah the texture was nice, unlike coarse ice, this one has a icy light feathery touch to it. Was like ice-cream, just lighter in texture. Special. Next time i’ll go back to try their matcha one.

bored-003

Lei and her pretty long tresses ! I think i will nv bear to spend on hair extension so i won’t ever have long hair that reaches to my waist =( Anyway, her ice is called ‘Breakfast in Bed’ Heh, sounds a lil kinky to me LOLS.

bored-0111

The way to longer, beautiful lashes ! haha i shld so build on my lashes collection.

Anyway, can’t believe i made a trip to the library just now and didn’t even manage to find one book that interest me. So i return empty-handed…nvm shall wait for yee to lend me hers haha. I can really do with some novels now.

Nothing like having a nice warm piece of chocolate cake with lotsa chocolate sauce and yummy raspberry vanilla ice cream to brighten up anybody’s day. And of cos, sharing it with dear yee. Ahh…good food always taste nicer shared =)

Edit: I just stumbled onto this quote on someone’s blog and i thought it’s worth sharing. Thought-provoking. It made me think.

“We always find ourselves holding on to things. Sometimes, we hold on to these things for so long, we forget what we were holding on to. It’s only when we let go of them, then can we see what we were holding on to.”

What makes you happy

Filed under: Birthdays, Just because, yumyum stuff — by lolapop @ 2:42 am

Bananatine from Miss Clarity Cafe made my day.

Caramelized bananas with Vanilla Ice Cream & French nougatine. Now who can resist that ? Simple as it is, the sweetness of the bananas blended in nicely with the creamy vanilla. Light crunchy nougatine adds the perfect finishing touch to the dessert.

Now i can’t show you the picture cos it’s not with me, so i described it. haha. I’m such a dessert person. Looking forward to dessert when i’m only halfway through my main course. Or maybe i’m just in a dessert mood. Sticky chewy chocolate and apple crumble made my day on mon too.

Desserts make me a happy (albeit fat) girl.

Oh and i made oatmeal lace cookies yesterday ! Sprinkled some almond slices in them cos they looked too plain on their own. They came out thicker than expected but still tasted good. You just can’t go wrong with oats. Especially love the warm and crunchy texture when they’re just out of the oven. Unfortunately they sorta softened up when i leave them to cool =( So in the refrigerator they go !

This is so random. but i like talking about food sometimes.

Happy 21st, mh. =) Like sh wrote, we’re all in the forever 21 club now haha.
