Oh, stop overreacting.

Feels like i’ve abandoned my blog for the longest time. Anyway, here’s a big heartfelt thanks to everybody for their birthday wishes =)

If only i can be 20 again. When really, i’m 22 this year. So which was your most memorable birthday celebration?

I can’t believe i was late for the second time for the EL proj meeting at cityhall on a saturday morning. So hard to wake up early when you’ve been up all night editing, heh. But 7 hours of shopping after that felt damm good We are such hardcore shoppers lols.

Oh and we had plenty of yummy food too. Pepper lunch (express). Ritz Strawberry strudel. Ah Chew’s 龟苓膏 + Mango sago. BV’s 算盘子. Cute looking ‘potato chips’ on a stick. Tori-q chicken balls. Ya kun’s teh-o/teh. It was literally like 食之路口. Makes a mental note to stop going out with lei too often haha. But boy was it a satisfying shopping + eating spree.

Tried pepper lunch (express) for the first time, it was not bad, very hot and peppery (as suggested by its name) but i’m not sure if my hair smelt quite the same for the rest of the day LOLS.

Anyway been editing all night yesterday too, but i’m finally done with Superhero. Wonder what’s gonna happen to our group project though. Not looking too good. Done with 3 projects/presentation for now. Left with NM3208 and EL1101E. It’s week 13 starting tml, where has all the time gone to ??!

Ok it’s time to clear the mess of wires and papers on my desk before i start coming up with my revision plan.

Before i go off, here’s a postsecret to share. Caught my eye among all the others. Well, it is true to a certain extent, ain’t it ;) ?

Cakes galore (ok not really)

I don’t know what this looks like to you, but it looks like a dream to me.

Shaped like a blooming sunflower. White, creamy and soft. Lightly sprinkled with cocoa powder and chocolate rice. Infused with a tinge of Kahlua. They say you find beauty within its subtlety.

I’m really proud of us for coming up with this tiramisu. Pretty good, considering it’s our first attempt at it. Although wen says the chocolate rice looks like worms -_- All is good apart from the bottom layer which was kindda soggy cos *ah-hem* yours truly have been very generous with the alcohol aaaaaaaaaaand the taste’s not that subtle afterall.

But what better way to get drunk than by eating a beautiful cake ?

The mascarpone cheese was a really good investment. Unlike cream cheese, which usually have an overpowering taste, mascarpone comes across as delicate and refined. Almost like a hint of cheese and cream mixed together.

The procedure was kind of a mess but it did turn out beautifully after sitting in my fridge for 4 days. Well i did read that the longer you allow this cake to sit, the better it will taste as the flavours would have blended in nicely by then. But 4 days is a tad too long haha. Anyway it is a nice surprise. To think i was fretting after it was done. Would have dubbed it the messiest cake ever.

It was kindda funny though, trying means and way to test if you’re at home and trying to get your block number through various people and ways. But we eventually ended up at ur block based on instinct and vague memories lols.

And the part where wen had to keep blowing out and relighting the candles (it was abit windy and the candles were burning out fast) cos we keep anticipating you to be stepping out of the lift when it was really other people. Many false alarms haha.

And of course, such a special cake goes to someone very very special. It was all worth while when you smiled and told us the cake was good =)

There and then i finally understood one of the many joys of baking, that is when you put ur heart into the creation and see the one you love enjoying it. It’s a simple kind of happiness, nothing too complicated. I’m sure this is the same way when it comes to cooking too.

Every december, there are always two very special birthdays of people very close to my heart. And this is for my dad.

I would like to think of this as a very homely cake. As my dad does not like food that are overly sweet and creamy, i decided on making a banana chocolate cake. Was contemplating a dark chocolate kahlua cake but not sure how it would turn out so i gave it a miss.

It is a simple chocolate cake with bittersweet chocolate frosting, akin to dark chocolate. Which i think is the only kind of chocolate my dad likes. Top it up with sliced bananas (there’s already mashed bananas in the cake itself), sprinkled the side with sliced almonds and to make it a lil cuter, i made two hearts with icing in the centre.

Nothing really fancy, and the taste is not out of the world, but like i told my dad, it’s 独一无二。To that, he laughed. and we all laughed together. Sometimes i think something made with love beats the ’store-boughts’ many times over.

Not that the taste will ever match up, but to me, it’s just kind of heartwarming in knowing the fact that it was made from scratch and customised to the person’s preference.

Happy birthday dad. I love you too. (I think i will get you a more ‘pro’ cake next year haha, baking skills not there yet.)

Monday is a good day to blog

Another week that’s gone in a whirl. A lot of going out, a lot of money spent, a lot of photos taken. Oh and a complain to popeyes at the flyer. for their extremely salty chicken strips, rude services and lack of toilet/wash basin. Aahhh that was a disappointment, given that i’ve always been a big fan of popeyes. Wonder where QC and good customer services gone.

That aside, i also tried sushi tei for the first time on thursday. Met the girls after their last paper. last paper is like almost 2 weeks ago for me so i keep feeling like i’ve aldry had my holiday haha. It’s not amazing, guess i am STILL craving for my sushi. Haven’t had a chance to have them =(

Saturday was supposed to be a stay-home-nurse-my-pockets day but  i still went out in the end. And i seriously think i have no luck w walas. BECOS this is the 2nd time we wanted to head down and not only was the unXpected not playing, no one is ! So it was to the cinemas for j and me. Caught Bolt, it was not bad and i adored Rhino the hamster (It’s a good day to diiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeee!) but i’ve decided i had enough movies for the time being, esp movies to do with doggies.

And then, having woke up at 3pm(i noe i noe i’m incorrigible), i’m still pretty awake after the movie and lei was back from her dnd so we started to make plans for the night ahead. Aha but eventually we ended up at my house with lotsa drinks and titbits. At the end of the day, we emptied my choya, some vodka and v v little kahlua. Here we have two bloated, tipsy and giggly girls.

Our girly affair ended at 4+am and it was off to bed.

Sunday was an almost all stay home day except for a supper call…the nights’ been cold recently. And today has been cold alllllll day. Been on ‘marley and me’ and finding it a really enjoyable read.

Aahhh the simple joy of cuddling up to a good read =)

Of Birthdays, Blowjobs and Bubbles

For some reason i always end up dozing off on my beanie. Maybe it’s the warm and nua-nua feeling.

Anyway been stocking up on face shop masks lately ! If they really work wonders i might get the whole value pack. Love the cold tingy feeling of the mask on my face and some smells really nice.

Teatree and bergamot rank the highest on my favourite list, totally helps to clear blemishes. Next wld be Rose and pine (those who knows me knows that i go ga-ga over the smell of rose lols.) Hmm Cereal Rice is okay, and i tried Mung Bean last night which is so-so only. Still have got Aloe Vera and the trusty Teatree =)

Ok anyway since i’m aldry on the topic of skincare i shall just continue abt my skincare regime and review on beauty products haha. Got the white jewel scrub from TFS sometime ago too and it seems not too bad. Gentle scrub though sometimes so gentle that i wonder if it really helps to exfliolate. hmm. The TFS pore minimising toner and moisturer doesn’t work though ! I guess i won’t be a TFS fan soon. But i would be a fan of their sheet masks heh. Ok end of the vanity affair.

Bananatine from Miss Clarity Cafe made my day.

Caramelized bananas with Vanilla Ice Cream & French nougatine. Now who can resist that ? Simple as it is, the sweetness of the bananas blended in nicely with the creamy vanilla. Light crunchy nougatine adds the perfect finishing touch to the dessert.

Now i can’t show you the picture cos it’s not with me, so i described it. haha. I’m such a dessert person. Looking forward to dessert when i’m only halfway through my main course. Or maybe i’m just in a dessert mood. Sticky chewy chocolate and apple crumble made my day on mon too.

Desserts make me a happy (albeit fat) girl.

Oh and i made oatmeal lace cookies yesterday ! Sprinkled some almond slices in them cos they looked too plain on their own. They came out thicker than expected but still tasted good. You just can’t go wrong with oats. Especially love the warm and crunchy texture when they’re just out of the oven. Unfortunately they sorta softened up when i leave them to cool =( So in the refrigerator they go !

This is so random. but i like talking about food sometimes.

Lots of birthday up recently. All the october babies. Two more this week.

Li’s 21st ! Glad it went well for her. Except for the smoke, ah-hem some photos and the attempted BREAK IN by a crazy guy. Called up the security and all but luckily nothing happened.

Bad things aside, ‘was quite nice to have icy cold red wine with chocolate cake on the bed in the aircon room. Talk about enjoyment, heh. Chatted, youtube-ed, and finally drifted off to sleep at 5am in the morning in the filthy room.

Was pretty tired after getting home the next day so i FELL ASLP again. Tsk. woke up to chongqing steamboat with my parents ! Yumyum. First time i’m not eating with the girls haha.

I travelled the FURTHEST i have ever for a project meeting. BB to PUNGGOL. craziness. Spent a whole day at friend’s house alternating between photoshop and illustrator. Gah. Sweet torture. Fun but stress.

Met H for dinner after and chilled out over swensens. Was a great gossip session lols. Ok and some serious talk. Can’t help but feel young and naive when we talk sometimes. I think he thought i was emo-ing on the way back becos the topic of The Ex came up. But i was just switching off, as usual.

So he drove, and i stared into space, talking occasionally. I wonder if we’ll still chill out like that after he graduate.

Just for a while

Tonight, i think i can finally choose to sleep early. After spending the last 2 nights fervently designing for my assignments, i realised how nothing seems to work out when you don’t have a clear idea in mind. But when you do, everything automatically falls in place. And this, can take ONE whole freaking day.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m not complaining. It’s just that although i love the work, it torments me to no end sometimes. Love-hate relationship, but — mostly love i think. Although my design pieces are far from perfect, although they are amateurish/common/conventional, i take pride in them.

It’s especially hard when you spend so much time and effort on a design, just to have people react negatively to it. Either they don’t understand it/don’t like it or just think it’s weird. Well, i mean who doesn’t wish to receive affirmation for their art piece ? But then of course, negative comments are more often than not, the more useful ones. Cos they push you to improve, and better your design.

I appreciate all comments because that means people actually take time to look at your work, evaluate it and give you their take on it. Comments are valuable and i don’t think you’ll get them much in the working world. I guess nobody will have time for anybody and it’s either used or discarded like trash in the bin.

Aaahh before i go further (and it is getting rather monotonous), i shall move on to something more interesting.

There were celebration of two 21st last week ! One of E’s at this chinese restaurant which serves quite yummy “home-cooked” food on wed. It was quite a simple affair and well i guess it didn’t help that there are always people who agrees AND THEN choose to pangseh at the last minute becos of funny(read: crap) reasons. Seriously, why agree in the first place then ? If this is too insignificant to fit into your busy schedule then just forget it. I don’t like this, not a bit. But we did have a good laugh over dinner, mainly due to my ever-cheerful and animated dar dar haha.

Liqi’s birthday party on sat…was like a mini HK ppl gathering. Her hair was done really beautifully that day, love those bouncy curls ! And as usual, the host was busy entertaining different group of friends so we pretty much entertained ourselves. Had to fly off to meet J for House Bunny after the birthday girl blew out the candles on the cake and took group photos. J better appreciate it haha. What can i say about the movie ? Very typical dumb blonde stereotype lar, but some parts are really funny. So it was not bad on the overall.

Anyway, 8am class tomorrow ! And i gotta make up for lost sleep, so it’s off to bed now. Tata !
